Cut two small strips approx 1/2" x 1/4" and glue them into place to act as supports for the removable lid.
Once glued into place the lid will rest on
these strips when placed into position.

Next, mark the centre of one end and drill a hole large enough to allow the lamp cord to pass through to the inside of the egg candler.

To allow for easy fitting of the lamp holder, the end can be unscrewed and temporaily removed giving easier access to the inside of the egg .
Fit the screw mount for the lamp holder to the inside of the end panel and thread the electrical cord through the hole.

Connect the cord to the lamp holder, screw the holder into place and refit the end panel. Once in place, fit the lamp to the holder.
With the lamp in place, it will be possible to mark the exact position of the light hole for drilling. It should ideally be placed directly above the centre of the lamp.

Using a 1-1/2" drill bit, drill out the hole in the removable top to allow the light from the lamp to pass through to the candled egg.

A piece of 1/4" ply is cut to size and used to fit into the grooves made earlier. this moveable screen is then drilled with various size holes which can be selected according to the size of egg being candled and positioned over the lamp. In this case, holes of 1/2", 1" and 1-1/2" are drilled.
