Homemade Wind Generators
When
building A Wind Turbine Make Sure You Get Your Location
Exactly Right!
If you've already decided to have a go at
building your own wind turbine, good luck! But don’t
forget, the design and build process is only one aspect of
the overall project.
There is no point in having the most carefully designed and
built wind turbine if you don’t position it to take best
advantage of the wind.
Once you’ve got your turbine ready to install you will have to
take a look at your options for locating it. For a start, the
higher you can get the turbine off the ground the better. The
wind is significantly stronger at higher elevations due to the
effect of ground surface friction, which slows the wind down at
the lower levels.
Generally speaking, try to position your turbine as high as
your circumstances will allow. When considering these
circumstances keep in mind your local planning laws. You may
well be technically able to get your wind turbine fifty feet in
the air but there is little point if your planning laws say you
can only go to twenty-five!
Learn More About How To Build The
Perfect Wind
Turbine
Consider the prevailing weather conditions. Check out your
local meteorology information to establish where the wind is
coming from most often. You can then work out where you are
most likely to get the optimum conditions for generating wind
power.
Next, take a look at the landscape and the position of
buildings etc. With some careful consideration you can take
advantage of the natural funnelling effect of these objects and
position your turbine appropriately. For example, a ten mph
wind in a wide-open space can become a thirty mph wind when it
is forced through a smaller space between buildings or other
features. If you position your wind turbine in one of these
places where the wind speed is at its greatest you can
considerably increase your power output. What we have touched
on here is just the start. Do plenty of research before you set
out and to build your wind turbine and you will reap the
benefits for years to come.
