Description: The Complete Chicken Care Kit is a comprehensive set of instructions on keeping and breeding chickens. It covers all areas of care and maintenance of a domestic setup. It also comes with it's own set of chicken coop designs and instructions for building your own chicken coop.

What’s inside: The kit is available as a pdf file for immediate download. It’s divided into six separate sections, further divided into a number of chapters which cover a range of information including general care, disease diagnosis, dietary requirements, housing and also a section on organic recipes. The page layout is easy to follow and is complemented by plenty of colour photographs. Important points in each chapter are summarised which allows for quick easy reference later on.

Opinion: I personally have kept chickens for many years and I was impressed by the depth of information provided by this manual. It covers practically all areas of raising chickens from a beginners point of view and also covers the more advanced areas which would be relevant to people with some experience. 

There are some very useful sections on housing and creating ideal conditions for keeping chickens and suggests plenty of options to suit various budgets and available space. There is plenty of information on breeding and raising chicks and some discussion on artificial hatching using incubators etc which is not covered in most manuals. Most importantly the information provided seems to be up to date and the resource links throughout the chapters are also very useful. There is also a dedicated resource toolbox with a lot of useful content in the form of hyperlink's. 

If you’re the DIY type you’ll find the section on housing an enjoyable read with in depth instructions, diagrams and well produced 3D images of the finished result. It takes care of a lot of the more mundane aspects of building the coop such as writing up cutting lists and calculating measurements etc. I found these cutting lists very useful for sourcing materials at a reasonable price as they make price comparison very easy.

The section on disease and ailments is very useful as they are laid out in table form for quick reference should you need to diagnose a condition quickly. These could even be printed off and pinned to the wall of the hen house or barn so as to be close at hand when needed. 

Verdict: overall the Chicken Care Kit seems to cover most of the areas you will have questions on if you are starting out keeping chickens. It also makes a useful reference manual for the experienced chicken keeper due to the quick reference tables etc. If you are keeping chickens for the first time I would strongly recommend you keep a copy of this close to hand as it will avoid a lot of the common pitfalls. I really like the section on Health and ailments and overall I didn’t find it lacking in any area. You will also find the resource toolbox a valuable asset as you progress with keeping them.
